Nursing, RN - BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing, B.S.N.)

The RN-BSN program is for licensed registered nurses who have an associates degree or diploma who are seeking a bachelor of nursing degree.  This program is 31 credit hours of online coursework.  Students seeking a bachelor's degree must complete the Missouri Core 42 requirements.  Indirect and direct clinical care experiences guide learning of population healthcare, leadership, and evidence-based practice.  Graduates will demonstrate standards-based professional practice to:

  • Function as designer, manager and coordinator of care
  • Assess health of individuals, families and communities
  • Use information and health care technologies
  • Advocate for quality nursing and health care
  • Apply theory and evidence-based knowledge

The Bachelor of Science degree program in Nursing at Missouri Western State University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org.)

Students who choose this bachelor degree program will have no more than 6 years from admission or subsequent declaration to meet the requirements listed below. If certification, accreditation or statutory requirements change and additional requirements become effective during this time, the new requirements take precedence.

RN-BSN Students

RN's who graduate from an approved ADN, AAS-Nursing, or diploma program must meet the general admission requirements of MWSU and the admission requirements of the Nursing department and hold a valid RN license. Specific admission and graduation requirements for RN-BSN students are available in the Nursing department.

Courses in general studies may also be required within the major. While the course(s) may satisfy both requirements, the credit hours will count only one time in the overall credit hours earned.

In order to meet the standards set forth by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing for baccalaureate degree programs, students earn credit in Nutrition in Nursing and Pathophysiology.

Program Graduation Requirements 

  1. Earn a grade of C or higher in all major coursework.
  2. Earn an overall GPA of at least 2.0 and a major GPA of at least 2.0. 

University Graduation Requirements 

  1. Earn a minimum of 120 credit hours (100 level and higher, maximum of 6 CED credit hours applicable).
  2. Earn a minimum of 30 credit hours in upper-division courses.  Lower-division transfer courses accepted as meeting upper-division departmental course requirements cannot be used to fulfill this requirement.
  3. Earn 30 of the last 45 credit hours at MWSU in institutional coursework (exclusive of credit by examination).
  4. Participate in required departmental and campus wide assessments. 
  5. Fulfill the Missouri Constitution requirement.
  6. Successfully pass the Missouri Higher Education Civics Achievement exam.
