Course Description: This course provides a comprehensive overview of the primary functions and services offered by commercial banks. The subjects covered include bank financial statements, the assessment and evaluation of bank performance, asset and liability management, liquidity and reserve management, the management and pricing of deposits, as well as the management of bank capital.

FIN 641  Financial Markets and Institutions     Credits: 3

Course Description: The course offers essential principles of financial intermediation, encompassing direct finance through financial markets and indirect finance through financial institutions. It covers topics such as interest rates and their significance in the valuation of financial assets, general financial asset pricing, as well as the various types and characteristics of trading across different financial markets. Furthermore, the course delves into the functions, pricing mechanisms, and institutions that function within the financial system. The role of the FED and monetary policy on interest rates and financial markets are also covered. Lastly, it reviews financial regulations aimed at maintaining financial stability.

FIN 642  Applied Corporate Finance     Credits: 3

Course Description: This course offers an extensive examination of the corporate finance function. Course emphasis is placed on in-depth financial statement and ratio analysis as a means to assess the overall financial health and competitive standing of the firm. Additional subjects covered include financial markets, interest rate risk, and the valuation of stocks and bonds (debt). The course also addresses risk versus return, capital budgeting, financial leverage, and the optimal capital structure of the firm.
